What Is A Healthy Diet Plan?

A diet you enjoy eating. A diet that provides you with a reasonable percentage of your nutritional requirements plus allows you to lose and maintain your preferred weight.

Is that tough? Not really. Only the first part. A diet you enjoy eating. Finding a nutritionally sound diet you can lose and maintain weight is the easy part. Finding one you like, enjoy and will use for life is entirely another matter.

No diet will work for you if you don't enjoy eating it. Enjoying food is normal human behavior and not a character flaw.

Let's take a typical diet. One that includes soda, snacks, chips, dip, desserts, candy, ice cream, seconds, white bread, pizza, beer and fast food. Stuff we all eat. The difference between fat or thin isn't the type of food you eat, but the quantity and frequency. Sure, certain types of food are loaded with calories, but the real calorie damage is done with quantity and frequency.

For every hundred calories you cut from your diet, you lose ten pounds in 12 months. Cut 300 calories per day and lose approximately 30 pounds in a year.

  • 15 potato chips = 150 calories
  • 1 (12 oz.) soda = 150 calories
  • 1 slice of pizza = 300 calories
  • 1 Big Mac = 540 calories
  • 1 (2.7 oz.) Snickers bar = 270 calories
  • 4 Pepperidge Farm Soft Baked Oatmeal Cookies = 560 calories

Most people can eliminate 300 calories per day with little effort, pain or deprivation. Add a 30 minute, five day per week walk and add an additional 15 pounds lost to the 30 you lost cutting a measly 300 calories per day. Grand total, 45 pounds. Not hard or difficult. No diet or grueling exercise required.

That's a healthy diet plan with a misery index of zero. A diet plan you can use for life. Your current diet, only slightly less of it. Plus a few minor modifications.
